Inflation, the Drug Crisis and Jagmeet Singh

Just a few things to talk about as they mostly piss me off in various ways. First let’s turn to the economy, inflation and recession. We are being inundated by “Experts” on what is going on, what is going to happen and what various governments and treasuries need to do. None and I mean none of these experts know what is going to happen. We have never seen inflation go like it has and this is due directly to the pandemic and the European War.

Inflation has topped 6.3% year over year, and while a huge number it is not the number we need to focus on.  The number that matters going forth is how inflation moves month to month. In short the Horse is out of the Barn, lets try to keep it in the Corral. While a recession is possible as it is defined as two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, we have an economy that is at full employment which is not indicative of a recession. This economic storm has never been seen before, the remedies are nothing but an effort to create an illusion that our leaders like PM Photo Op have a handle on the economy when they really don’t have a clue. Look at Covid relief, the government spent 100’s of billions that was unnecessary resulting in a massive increase in debt and because they had such poor controls on the relief programs billions was lost to fraud. So don’t believe what the markets, politicians or the media says about recession, soft landings, interest rate hikes or inflation. The fact is they do not know what is the best strategy is to deal with inflation no one does and the noise they make is just noise.

The drug problem needs to be managed a lot better than it has been. While there has been movement on the decriminalization of Drugs so addiction is seen as a health issue not a criminal offense, there still has not been movement on treatment, housing and programs for people to help them get their lives back. No one plans to become an addict and end up on the streets. The cost of providing the tools for addicts to get their lives back is significantly less than the costs of the current state of affairs. Think tanks like the Fraser Institute have crunched the numbers and fixing the problem costs less than ignoring it. What pisses me off so much is that this falls under the Feds and Provinces to clean it up yet our MP’s and MLA’s do nothing because it does not play well politically. You know what does not play well politically, people dying at a rate of 6 per day in BC.

Finally I wish to bestow on Jagmeet Singh, the NDP leader, my Good Grief Moron award, an acknowledgement given to people who say or do things that only a Moron would. In Jagmeet’s case it was his idea of taxing the Oil companies for their obscene profits this year and giving that tax revenue to families. Let’s screw the people that owned and held Oil and Gas investments the prior 8 years, like me. Forget the years when dividends were cut, oil went negative and the price cratered on most stocks because this one year they made profits and so they should be heavily taxed. Who gets the lion share of revenue from Oil and Gas sales to Canadians? That’s right various levels of governments, through road taxes, infrastructure taxes, GST, PST, Transit Tax and of course Carbon taxes. Now Jagmeet wants to tax away the profits that are paid out to Canadians invested in the sector because he is a Moron trying to make a sound bite about the evil oil companies.  Good grief we are all doomed with socialist Morons like this.
