Had to Hear the Convoy Supporters First Hand

So this past weekend the Convoy for freedom started in Chilliwack and so my son Jack and I went down there to hear first hand why these people are supporting this protest. We went down there and interviewed people in the parking lot, then took our Pro Vaccine Signs to an overpass that was packed with Convoy Supporters and protested the Convoy.

Jack is very anti-Convoy, while only 13 he grasps the science of mutation and costs. He feels that his freedoms are being infringed upon by the virus dragging out and this is because of the unvaccinated. So he needed to get his voice out. He wanted to hear first hand why the protestors were there and so we interviewed 3 people at the rallying point and then stood at the overpass and interacted with another dozen but did not record it as it was a narrow area.

So what did we hear? Everything from the notion of tracking devices being imbedded to it will kill everyone who gets it. It was described a giant conspiracy by the elite and governments to control and take away our freedoms, this is a hoax, hospitals being overwhelmed is bullshit. When asked for them to describe the freedoms they lost it was they could not go to a restaurant, the movies, church, travel, the gym or a pub. Holy crap It was nothing but whining about first world problems by these supporters. Jack and I were not there to debate them we just wanted to hear where it was coming from.

I asked the question of one person if they thought the government was not being honest from the start and his reaction was yes, he felt that from the start. People believed the government has treated them like children and on that fact I cannot disagree with them. The other ideas and conspiracy theories many follow are in my opinion a result of people lacking critical thinking skills. Really world leaders cannot get their shit together about trade, human rights, climate change, Ukraine and the list goes on, but magically they all conspire over Covid to control the world that is what you believe? Wow!

When we were on the overpass with our signs ( Vaccines Equal Freedom, Support Canada Get Vaxxed) people were not so welcoming especially when their beliefs were directly confronted. They all had comments once they saw our signs and me not being a wall flower I could not help myself but to engage their logic or lack thereof. One supporter said that I was a fool to believe the vaccines. So I asked her, do you know what the m in mRNA stands for? Totally blank look, she had no idea. To which I pointed out, perhaps if you don’t understand the basis of the science you should not be against it.

She then went on that she was going to pray for us. Oh god, are we really going down that rabbit hole and I just could not resist. “Do you believe that God will protect you?” which she affirmed so I pointed out, “he did, he gave people the knowledge to create a vaccine to protect you.” At that point another supporter did not like my facts or arguments, I guess they were too logical, so he intervened and told me I should not be engaging in this discussion there given my views. Others actually stood in disbelief that we were there. One more Senior gentleman stood behind Jack and I just staring at us. I was not sure if he was trying to intimidate us, trying to use his anti-vaxx Jedi mind powers or trying to squeeze a fart out without shitting himself.

One individual started down the freedom road and this Protest is about body autonomy, to which I said, no it is about science getting rid of this before it mutates as it could change again and become deadly. To them I was the fool, for believing the lies of government and science. The reality is they simply don’t understand and when Jack decided he was putting his mask on, wow the looks then. Eventually they were crowding both Jack and I with one supporter using his sign to cover Jack’s. I had asked him earlier to back off( yeah I said it that succinctly) and not crowd us, but he now knew what our signs said so he was trying to demonstrate his Anti-Vax masculinity on a 13 year old, and that’s when I decided we should leave as we had enough of these potential Darwin Award nominees.

We accomplished what we set out to do, we held our signs out for an hour as the convoy passed underneath the overpass, clogging the highway and creating chaos at the US-Canada border.   As we left there were a few cat calls from the peanut gallery and Jack wanted to respond but I reminded him we were amongst those whose IQ was smaller than their shoe size any logical response would just go right over  their heads.  

My overall impression of the supporters was that a vast majority lack basic critical thinking skills. The government wants to track you using a chip in the Vaccine? What info are they going to get from you that is so critically important to national security? Track the number of times a day that you need take a dump? Do you own a cell phone, have a credit card, bank account? Yes, now connect the dots……..
